Brandon Lauzon, 19, recently finished filming his first feature film. Lauzon wrote and directed the film, entitled From the Woods, and with the help of his friend and fellow movie maker, Daniel Espina, 20, who was director of photography and producer, his dream became a reality. Lauzon's interest in filmmaking began in high school, where he made his first short film. From there, his interest grew, and Lauzon attended a 10-month film course at the Trebas Film Institute in Toronto. "Going to film school definitely helped me a lot," said Lauzon. "You end up coming out really jazzed up about it. It was really hands on and you learn a lot in 10 months." The course was the right fit for Lauzon, who feels that if he had taken a multi-year course, his film would have never became a reality. "If I was still in school, I probably wouldn't have had the time to write the script." Lauzon began working on the first draft of his script in September, and after a few drafts, he had a finished product, and started organizing for a shoot. "The hardest part was getting it off the ground," said Lauzon. "We had to find the right crew, and then there was getting all the equipment together. But the actual shooting was a blast." For the film, Lauzon and Espina posted want ads on message boards frequented by actors, and audition sessions were held at Sheridan College Filmmakers Brandon Lauzon and Daniel Espina Trafalgar campus in a rented weather, filming took approxiclassroom. mately four weeks.
