The Victory Lap to be taken by cancer survivors at 7 p.m. will officially kick off the event which will continue through the night until 7 a.m. because as the 2007 theme states, Cancer Never Sleeps. It will take place as in past years on the grounds of Appleby College where teams -- 178 and counting -- will set up camp, literally, and spend all night taking turns walking or running the track. It raised $535,000 last year and this year's sixth annual edition of the event promises to go even farther. This year's major sponsors include: Scotiabank (Event Sponsor), AGF Funds (Survivor Sponsor), Appleby College (Site Sponsor), The Oakville Beaver (Print Media Sponsor), WAVE 94.7 FM (Radio Media Sponsor) and Longo's (Food Sponsor). The Oakville Relay for Life is a community celebration of survival -- a tribute to the lives of loved ones and a night of fun, friendship and fundraising to beat cancer. The inspiring event involves teams of 10 or more people participating in the overnight, non-competitive relay. This year's relay carries the theme of celebrating the caregiver and will recognize the spouses, relatives, and tent-site set up times; parking -- off site parking locations and shuttles; registration; luminaries; survivors' -- reception and Victory Lap details; entertainment and activities; T-shirts; and People's Choice Awards -- best tent site, best costume. There is no parking on the grounds of Appleby College though parking and shuttles are available at Coronation Park and T. A. Blakelock High School. Carpooling is recommended and major delays are expected on Lakeshore Road. At the heart of the Relay is the Survivors' Victory Lap and all cancer survivors are invited to join. Survivors will be called to the Relay For Life start line at 7 p.m. Each survivor will be identified with a special t-shirt and ribbon. Survivors are invited to attend a reception at 6 p.m. and if a survivor needs assistance to complete the lap, golf carts will be available. Each registered team and survivor will receive dinner courtesy of Longo's between 5-8:30 p.m. Team registration and luminary purchase can be done up to and including event day. Drivers can expect to fill their Saab tanks with biodiesel fuel that is 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent gasoline, and two-stage hybrid engines that are designed to run on 100 per cent pure renewable fuel. Today Saab builds the Saab 93 in three body styles: sedan, combi `wagon' and cabriolet. The Saab 95 also comes in a sedan and combi, as well as a 97X sport utility.
