There will be sesquicentennial celebrations all across town to ensure Oakville has the biggest birthday bash ever. The Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) in the Downtown, Kerr Village and Bronte Village will host special events as will the community centres in Glen Abbey, River Oaks and Iroquois Ridge. Mayor Rob Burton will plant a commemorative oak tree in each ward (at these approximate times: Iroquois Ridge Community Centre at noon; River Oaks Community Centre at 12:45 p.m.; Glen Abbey Community Centre at 1:30 p.m.; Bronte Village at 2:15 p.m.; Kerr Village at 3 p.m.; and Lakeside Park at 3:45 p.m.). Topping it off, many individual celebrations or those hosted by various groups around town will also be taking place. It's a day to celebrate and residents will be able to do it just about anywhere in town. The church located at 262 Randall St. will host a Birthday Picnic on St. John's West lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will include refreshments, a barbecue, historical tour and games for children like face painting, 150th tat- toos, kid's crafts, a barbecue and snow cones. The Downtown Oakville BIA is sponsoring the Halton Regional Police Pipe and Drum Band "Celtic Connection" from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Towne Square and many downtown businesses will display pictures of Oakville's beginnings, courtesy of the Oakville Historical Society. A Calithumpian Parade will then set off from the Towne Square at 1:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to join in with noisemakers, silly hats and costumes for the march to Lakeside Park.
