In a surprising development, the Blades and Don Edwards have parted company. The former Buffalo Sabres netminder took over the team's coaching and general managerial duties from Frank Carnevale shortly into the the 2005/06 season and led the Blades to a 61-23-3-4 record (.709 winning percentage) over two seasons. Team president Bob Falconi said Edwards' departure is "all fallout from the arena situation." The Blades' home arena, Dominion Twin Rinks, went bankrupt and has since been purchased by the Town of Oakville, which has yet to determine how it will allocate ice time for next season. The Blades, as Twin Rinks' former main tenants, used to have their choice of ice time. Falconi said with Edwards living near Peterborough, he needed to have some guarantees of practice and game times to make his duties with the Blades work with his business activities. "This really wasn't planned," Falconi said. "A lot of things happened quickly. With the arena, he was able to run our team and his business because we were in control of everything."
