Dec. 20, a blood donor clinic will be held at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., in the South Atrium from 1 ­ 7 p.m. The other two clinics are Friday, Dec. 22 at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, 1051 Glenashton Dr., from 4:30 ­ 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 12 at Sheridan College, 1430 Trafalgar Rd., in the J.M. Athletic Centre, from 10 a.m. ­ 2 p.m. Canadian Blood Services is calling on residents of Oakville to help replenish its inventory for cancer patients, surgery patients, trauma victims and the many other patients who will require blood in the region every day. The demand for platelets, which are used in the clotting of blood, is especially needed during this time of year. "In this time of reflection and resolution, we need the people of Oakville to continue their commitment to saving lives," said Renee Naiman, Regional Director for Central Ontario. "All that we ask is that they commit to keeping their appointment or call us at 188-2-DONATE and schedule their appointment, so that we can continue our obligations to local patients in need of blood or blood products as platelets." Canadian Blood Services hopes to recruit 15,000 new donors from Central Ontario this year ­ 80,000 across the country ­ to help meet rising hospital demand. It's a national, not-for-profit charitable organization that manages the blood supply in all provinces and territories outside of Quebec and oversees Canada's Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
