www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday December 2, 2006 - 5 CAW candlelight vigil The Canadian Autoworkers' Union (CAW) Local 707 will hold its seventh annual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, Dec. 6 in memory of the young women slain 17 years ago at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique -- the Montreal Massacre. The vigil is at 7 p.m. at the Local's union hall in The Galaxy Club, 475 North Service Rd. E. Dec. 6 is dedicated to the elimination of violence. Local 707 invites members of the community to join in remembering the 14 young women who were killed and others who have lost their lives due to violence. This year candles will be lit by the youths of Local 707 members. Guest speaker will be Julie Pehar, Community Co-ordinator of Peel Sexual Assault and former SAVIS Education Co-ordinator and Director of HOPE (Halton Organization for Pride and Education). The union speaker will be Rita Thompson, Local 707 Employment Equity Representative and Women's Advocate. Music will be provided by Local 707 members Nicole Dunn and Dean Langille. Refreshments will be provided.
