BARRIE ERSKINE/ OAKVILLE BEAVER Dragon Boat Festival raises $40,000 for charity The third annual charity Oakville Dragon Boat Festival held Sunday raised more than $40,000, with additional pledges still pouring in. Funds raised will benefit the Children's Aid Society of Halton and sustain the many causes the Rotary Club of Oakville-Trafalgar supports, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Halton Women's Place. The Festival, held Sunday Aug. 20 at the Kelso Conservation Area, featured 57 teams competing in races all day long. The festival drew 2,500 people this year. The three overall race winners from the A Division were the Hydrophobic Dragons in first place, the Champions Off-Track Wagering's Shogun Warriors in second, and Mojos Reloaded in third. The Gold Sponsor for the festival was Whole Foods Market in Oakville. Silver sponsors were The Co-Operators, TigerTel/UTR and The Sign Department. Honourary Patron for this festival was Olympic gold medalist Larry Cain, who lent his time and talents to ensure it ran successfully.
