At 9 a.m., Mayor Ann Mulvale will be at the Oakville, Milton District Real Estate Board at 125 Navy St. to send the Big Bike on its way towards its goal of $50,000. The Big Bike for Stroke is an annual event hosted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, and the community is encouraged to come out and participate by donating or volunteering. The Big Bike, a one-of-a-kind in Canada bike built for 30 riders, is also riding on Wednesday, July 5 from 3 - 9 p.m. at Sobeys on Bronte Rd. and Lakeshore Rd. The Big Bike will travel across Canada, visiting more than 200 communities in nine provinces and put a smile on more than 54,000 riders' faces raising $7 million. In Oakville, 11 organizations will ride the 1,920 pound bike, including CIBC, Dana Corporation, The Fire Hall, Halton Healthcare, Hilton Garden Inn, Home Depot, Investors Group, Oakville Milton and District Real Estate Board, Quality Hotel & Suites, VSM Abrasives and the Women's Club. For those who donate, the Foundation ensures the money fuels the very best research. Every day this year, nine residents in the Halton region will be hospitalized because of heart disease.
