Readers also covet this colâ€" umn for the crisp, clear remarkâ€" ably researched insight it proâ€" vides on topics as diverse and significant as what the heck is happening in my dayâ€"toâ€"day life to, well, what the heck is going on in my dayâ€"toâ€"day life. The odd time this column tackles a topic which, some sugâ€" gest (my wife included), is "way out of its league." Apparently, such a column appeared about 818 days ago. And I‘ve been hearing about it ever since. In the unlikely event you don‘t have my column topics memorized according to publiâ€" cation date, the column in quesâ€" tion was generally about "modâ€" ern science" â€" more specifically, about the discovery that the brains of dead men are larger than the brains of dead women. From this discovery, I deduced â€" and not without backâ€" ing by a few men of modern sciâ€" ence â€" that if the brain of a dead man is larger than that of a dead women, it stands to reason that the brain of a living man must be gads greater than that of a living woman... From there, I logically leaped to the concluâ€" sion that men are obviously betâ€" ter than women. I followed this leap with the very mature lines: "Na, na, na, na, na, na." Every day since, childish women (my wife included) have confronted me with soâ€"called facts and figures, stats and more stats, which they believe prove that compared to women, men are but mold buildup on a showâ€" er stall. This childishness peaked recently when my wife â€" whose brain I scientifically observed in that longâ€"ago column "is conâ€" siderably smaller than mine" â€" brought home an ‘In Health‘ magazine in which I found the aforementioned fact regarding women‘s preoccupation with lintâ€"free belly buttons. "This should end all arguâ€" ments," my wife said smugly, handing over the glossy magaâ€" zine. On the cover of this publicaâ€" tion was the headline â€" "The Superior Sex" â€" which (as a man) I naturally mistook for a headline promising an inside scoop on superior sex. Having raced off to my room to read the pictures, I disappointedly disâ€" covered the headline hailed a fabrication, I mean a report, about how women are superior to men. Bigger brains. Sharper senses. Longer lives. That sort of malarkey. Indeed, according to In Health magazine, 16% of men and 41% of women pull Oreo cookies apart before they took a bite... Oh, and apparently, women are not the weaker sex. If you can imagine. In Health says women outlive men. on average by.seven years. That of the 12 causes of death, each cause kills more men than women. That women are better than men at distinguishing colâ€" ors. That women have a sharper sense of taste, and a better sense of smell. That women have greater sexual capacities (although they tend to get more headaches)... Also, In Health says, "Scientists, who have studied the femaleâ€"male health gap, find that all the data point to one conclusion: Mother Nature is a bigot." Apparently, the male has a higher mortality rate in almost all forms of animal life studied â€" in nematodes, mollusks, crusâ€" taceans, insects, arachnids, birds, reptiles, fish, and mamâ€" â€" mals. Finally, while women are more vulnerable to everyday sicknesses and pains, men are more vulnerable to lifeâ€"threatenâ€" ing diseases. In Health says, "Women get sick, but men are dead." Ouch. I decided then and there to blue box In Health. To recycle the heck out of it. "What did you think of the article?" my wife asked. "Hogwash," I replied. "But it‘s factual," she argued. There‘s only three facts in that magazine worth mentionâ€" ing," I countered. "The one about belly button cleaning; the one about Oreo cookie opening; and the fact that 22% of women like the way they look nude, while 68% of naked men are pleased with their appearance..." "And doesn‘t that tell you something about men?" my wife said.
