The camp â€" which opened seven years ago â€" is staffed entirely by volunteers and is funded by corpoâ€" rate and individual donations. The 46 campers, ranging in age from four to 18â€"yearâ€"old, attend the weekâ€"long camp for free. the exception of swim time, when bathing suits revealed scars, Chamberlain almost forgot the kids were sick and the kids did, too. They were at camp to do regular kidstuff, to forget about their probâ€" lems, and to as much as possible have a week free from stress. They played basketball and tag, went horseback riding, and swimming, painted Tâ€" shirts, made chocolates, and even went for rides in a hot air balloon. "We had a full program," said Chamberlain. "There were activities we didn‘t have time to do." When Chamberlain first learned about Camp Quality last year, he was so impressed by it he signed up to be a companion. Paid Annually Companions are totally responsiâ€" ble for their campers. They make sure the camper makes the most of his experience at camp and has a good time â€" and in the months before camp, they are carefully selected. Early in June, the two meet for the first time and the companion tries to become familiar with the child‘s famâ€" ily and illness. Once they arrive at camp, they do everything together. "It‘s his week." While companions develop a one on one relationship with their campers, the other volunteers at Camp Quality also work hard to ensure the children enjoy their stay. Each year, a retired couple from Burlington volunteer to be the camp‘s resident grandparents, giving out hugs and encouragement to all the children. Other volunteers run activities, clean washrooms, and fix whatever needs For Chamberlain, the Camp Quality experience was tremendous.
