"My understanding is the conditions of the Social Contract and Expenditure Control Plan supercede all of these supposed acts. ‘"The taxpayers don‘t want to hear about our problems with these agenâ€" cies. All they know is we‘re in a new economy and let‘s get on with it," the Pomeroy says. The budget review committee has asked Rinaldo to report back on conâ€" cems raised by the boards and agencies at its next meeting. Regional treasurer Joe Rinaldo said a 2.2 per cent reduction in contribuâ€" tions to Halton‘s boards and agencies is in keeping with "acrossâ€"theâ€"board" cuts in all departments to offset a 12.9 per cent lessening of provincial grants. The proposed reductions are miniscule if one considers the boards and agencies affected have combined budgets of about $50 million, Rinaldo says. "It‘s tough to get a year‘s reduction into a threeâ€"month period. It‘s necâ€" essary to help some of the agencies. We did it with the police (budget)," he said. (Continued from page 1) Pomeroy says the region is willing to consider a compromise solution to provide "bridge" financing to the boards and agencies for part of the year. He says the region is well aware of what those affected are going through, since it was forced to make spending reductions halfway through its fiscal year because of provincial cutbacks. The chairman says the region would consider taking its dispute with the HRCA to the Ontario Municipal Board only as a last resort.
