"People who should be receiving the Tâ€"4 CPP will receive a duplicate copy by Friday (today), or Monday In the meantime, Wallace said duplicate Tâ€"4 slips will be issued to those Oakville seniors who have yet to receive the forms, which are needed before the seniors can file their income taxes. Wallace said Health and Welfare, along with the department of Supply and Services, is investigatâ€" ing why the seniors did not receive the Tâ€"4 slips by the March 1st deadâ€" line. (Continued from page 1) "We‘re a group of businesses which wants to form a coâ€"operative union of businesses which wants to strive for the same goal," Lalonde said. "There is a problem involving the distribution of Tâ€"4 CPP slips, but the department of Health and Welfare hasn‘t been able to deterâ€" mine what the problem is," said Peter Wallace, spokesperson for Oakville Milton MP Otto Jelinek, the Minister of Revenue. The federal department responsiâ€" ble for issuing CPP checks mailed the original Tâ€"4 slips Feb. 8th, but they were somehow misplaced and never received by the seniors. (416) 844â€"7354 t ies The 1992 figure was a marked improvement over 1986, when a simâ€" ilar survey showed shoppers were spending 45 cents out of every retail dollar locally. Lalonde said a comparison of the two surveys is difficult because Oakville‘s "demographics have changed" since 1986. But he said the survey results are encouraging. McLaughlin said Jelink‘s Oakville constituency office took his "It‘s the first time in 50 years I haven‘t got my mail. We haven‘t got no sense out of anybody," said an angry McLaughlin. However, McLaughlin said his brother and nephew who both live in Burlington had received their Tâ€"4s by the deadline. "There‘s eight or nine of us (who haven‘t received their T4s). We all live within two blocks of each other," said Gordon McLaughlin, 70. However, the Oakville Beaver was told by one senior living on Highland Road that several seniors living in the area hadn‘t received their Tâ€"4s from Health and Welfare Canada. Wallace said their was no estiâ€" mate available on how many seniors have been affected by the error. "The problem is not just isolated to Oakville. Oakville is one area that‘s been affected. Mr. Jelinek is concerned for the immediate welfare of Oakville/Milton," he said. or Tuesday," Wallace said. He said the survey results providâ€" ed the impetus for launching the yearâ€"round Shop Oakville campaign. "It‘s a pieâ€"inâ€"theâ€"sky goal. We don‘t think that would happen, but that‘s what we‘re shooting for," Lalonde said. Last January, hundreds of CPP cheques destined for Oakville‘s seniors were misplaced. The original cheques were found weeks later in a government mail room in London after the cheques had already been reâ€"issued to the seniors. The ultimate goal is to have 100% of every shopping dollar spent localâ€" ly. Wallace said anyone who hasn‘t received their Tâ€"4 slip within a few days should call Health and Welfare at 1â€"800â€"263â€"8391. "I‘m amazed they can turn out the duplicates that fast. They‘re going to blanketâ€"cover the issuance of the duplicates. If some individuâ€" als who have already received their Tâ€"4 receive a duplicate they‘re not to worry. They will be clearly marked ‘Duplicate,‘" Wallace said. The department was going to send McLaughlin his Tâ€"4 informaâ€" tion, while a duplicate was being prepared. But those plans were changed when Health and Welfare decided it would be better to issue duplicates of the Tâ€"4s. name, Social Insurance Number and address and faxed the information to the Health and Welfare Canada office in Chatham.
