An _ investigation by the Oakville Fire Department deterâ€" mined the fire began after an elecâ€" tric stove in the basement was inadvertently switched on during the birthday party while the chilâ€" dren were playing a game of hideâ€" andâ€"goâ€"seek, Peters said. A plastic bag left on a burner ignited, causâ€" ing other combustible materials near the stove to also catch fire. The fire began in the basement, said Peters. "(The family) had trouble getâ€" ting out of the house because the fire was trying to get oxygen and it was taking all the oxygen from the house. They couldn‘t get out and the women really had to yank on the door," Peters said. About 10 children had attended the party given by the family for the 11â€"yearâ€"old girl.
