President Elaine Mannisto opened the Auxiliary prayer and welcomed regular and new mem- bers. Secretary Brenda Cottrell read the minutes and the Treasurer's report was presented by Rosemary Fraser. Correspondence was received from Sylvia Duquette, also a let- ter from Barb Symington to explain the proposed increase in the annual H.A.A.O. fees. Marnie Miller , provincial H.A.A.O. public relations chair- man, reported on Hospital Auxiliary statistics sent in last spring. The sum of $272,444 has been raised from the twelve aux- iliaries in our region. The need for additional sup- port has become increasingly clear with tight budgets necessi- tating service reductions and fre- quent temporary closures at many hospitals. The financial statement for the Gift shop was given by Marg Gander. The Lifeline Committee reported on recent communica- tions with the Department of Mines and Northern Development, who assisted in this program. The baby bootee report for the past month was given by Norma Crockford when three girls and one boy were born in the McCausland Hospital. Cornucopias had been made for the Thanksgiving tray favors and suggestions were offered. for the Hallowe'en tray favors. A work party to make these favors will be held at the home of Elaine Manisto. . Sheila Cassie, as Board repre- sentative, informed the members of the need for a new x-ray machine at a cost of $350,000. She added. that the Board is considering many forms of fundraising for the x-ray machine. Auxiliary members agreed to lend their support to this future purchase for the hospital. The Auxiliary will have two tables at the craft sale It was agreed to have baking only. Samples of the cookie trays will be on display at this time for placing orders. Expanding on last year's experience, "Cookies Only" will be made for these trays. Brenda Cottrell agreed again to head up this project, assisted by Marg Gander. Prepaid orders must be in to Brenda by Nov. 30, and will be available for pick up Dec. 8. The fall conference of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario will be held in Thunder Bay at the Fort William Country Club, Friday, Nov. 2. Vickie Boucher, Margaret Gander and Elaine Mannisto will attend. Elaine delivered In Memorium cards to families of late mem- bers, Pauline Moon and Helen Ballard. The annual convention of H.A.A.O. will b held at the Royal York in Toronto. Norma Crockford, who will receive her life membership at this conven- tion, will attend together with Sheila Cassie, Vickie Boucher and Elaine Mannisto, Chairman of Region 12A.
