Saddam Hassein's legacy of horror in Iraq on TV Ontario in November No one knows just how many people have perished at the hands of Saddam Hussein, who has ruled Iraq in a personal dicta- torship ever since he took over the leadership of the Ba'ath party in 1979, He has eliminated legitimate political opposition in the country and liquidated any member of his own circle who might be seen as a rival ora successor.
