A total of $ 70,000 was award- ed this year to 103 deserving stu- dents studying for the ministry. The awards were given without regard to the students church affiliation. This-is an annual award cere- mony and project of the Eastern Star. Each province conducts its own award program. The Worthy Grand Matron's project had also raised over $51,000 for Alzheimer's research. The money was raised by various chapters in Ontario. These are only two of the annual charity projects of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Flora Bryson presented the Worthy Matron with a gift from the outgoing officers and Mr. Jack Bryson presented the gift to the Worthy Patron. Both responded briefly. Beth Macadam presented the Certificate to the Worthy Matron and Paul Chapell presented the Certificate to the Worthy Patron as they vacated their respective chairs. To qualify for the program, a family must: 3 Contain at least one individual over the age of 65 years; or who is handicapped; and z. Not contain any person physically capable of performing the snow removal which is to be supplied under this program; and 3. Be the sole occupant group of the dwelling unit served by the driveway to be cleared under the program; and 4. Have an application completed by an individ- ual within the family unit stating that he/she/they are financially unable to make arrangements for driveway snow removal by any other means.
