GREASELESS-STAINLESS OINTMENT Ben-Gay Arthritis Pain Rub CLINICALLY PROVEN EFFECTIVE: Carolyn's critique - The Experts PG13 1989 94min Filmed on location in British Columbia. Starring: John Travolta, Arye Gross, Charles. Martin Smith, Kelly Preston and Rick Ducomin. This movie is an interesting story along the lines of Glasnost and not always believing what you see. Travolta and Gross play Travis and Wendall; 2 struggling entrepreneurs. They already lost a lot of money on one club and are now trying to get another going. Cameron Smith (Charles Martin Smith) enters their lives. He says he wants to open a top- notch club in Indiana Springs, Nebraska. He wants them to ren- ovate, manage and showcase it. When he tells them he'll pay each $1,000.00 a week, they jump at it. On the plane, they drink cham- paigne and proceed to pass out. They wake up in Smith's house. Smith's wife, Betty, doesn't understand when they ask for a cup of java, his kids don't know what a walkman is, and the town itself looks like it is stuck in a Mayberry rerun. Oh, On Toto! I . don't think we're in Kansas any- more. (Or Nebraska, or even America). Right, you guessed it. We're in Russia. Indiana Springs was set up by the KGB to train spies in the art of being American. Smith wants to bring them into the pre- sent and he has kidnapped Travis and Wendall to do it. But, anoth- er agent, Jones, thinks that the spy town is just fine and he does- n't want the Americans there. He, gets Sparks (Rick Ducomin of BERBS fame) to keep track of them. What happens to our two Americans? Well, they try to bring a little hep and a little cool to this town. Along the way they meet some pretty interesting char- acters. Bonnie (Preston) is a true believer in doing your duty for your country. She is suppose to seduce Travis and keep track of him. She does her duty well, but she falls in love with him. Little old ladies bake pies for the club opening. A young black man is a walking advertisement for Nerd Of The Year and becomes their bartender. - This movie is good clean fun. It demonstrates the old adage "To be free, is to be alive". The peo- ple of Indian Springs realize that their lives are only a sham and they- want the real thing. How they get it is an adventure in com- munism verses americanism. This movie was made befor Travolta's wildly successful "Look Who's Talking", but it still shows how much he's changed since his "Saturday Night Fever" days. Give it a look - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I give "The Experts" an.8. a Should Not be Missed!
