Everyone participated in the Travelling Song which ended Pays Plat 1st Annual Pow Photo by Angie Saunders Newfie Night a 'blast' By Angie Saunders The News ' Have you ever kissed a fish? Well, a few "Honourary Newfies" did last Saturday night in Terrace Bay. 8 The Terrace Bay Legion host- ed "Newfie Night" which was attended by well over 200 people. Some of the Honourary Newfies were: Andy Lauzon, Dave Desrosiers, George Churney, Nap Vienniau, Diane Matson, Bea Williams, Leon Theriault, Ray Theriault, Noel Des-Chatelets, Ben Levesque,.and Ray Celeste. "Screechin In" These people were lucky and were "screeched-in". This means they had to kiss a fish, eat Newfie steak (which is bolognie), take a shot of screech (wicked Newfie rum), and get on their hands and knees with their derriere in the air and recite the Newfie prayer. A few skits were done during the night. Dennis Gervais had people howling with laughter over his Red Skeleton imitation of a child making a peanut butter sandwich. Mr. Gervais . was the Honourary Newfie Baby dressed in diapers and all. He gave the crowd quite a shock when he left the hall with his diapers full: - - The food at the event was excellent. Twenty pounds of cod were shipped in from Newfoundland to make fish cakes. Shirley Cornect, Sharon Murray, Betty Elsworth, and Ann Query made 400 fish cakes. Newfie candy and the potent Newfie Screech.were also import- ed from Newfoundland. Home- made soup was made by a few local ladies and cheese, pickle and meat trays were donated by Noel Des Chatelets at the Terrace Bay Bakery. John Walker made some great meatloaf for the evening. Organizer Shirley Cornect obviously did a wonderful job organizing the evening because everyone I talked to had a blast and can't wait til-next year's Newfie Night.
