Men's Slow-pitch tournament By Monica Wenzlaff The News A Schreiber team took third place in the men's slow-pitch tournament held in Terrace Bay Mary Long is the new General Manager at Superior North Business Centre. By Angie Saunders The News Superior North Business Centre in Terrace Bay has a new General Manager. Mary Long has been working for the Business Centre since the beginning of July. The Centre loans funds to peo- ple who want to start a new busi- ness and covers the area west from Steel River to Dublin River and 30 miles north and south of Highway 17. The area includes Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Rossport, and Pays Plat. Mary moved to Terrace Bay from Thunder Bay where she most recently worked for the Northwest Enterprise Centre. Her job in Thunder Bay included helping clients get off social assistance so they could start their own businesses. Mary Long has been in busi- ness for the past 10 years. She also owned a Microwave World Store in Sault Ste. Marie but has since sold it. Mary owns the Thunder Bay Women's Show which is a trade show targeted towards females. Mary moved to Terrace Bay with her two daughters, because she wanted to develop her career and get management experience. She stated that she likes the town but is hoping the weather will warm up. In the fall Mary wants to offer business related courses at the Business Centre. These course will give the public a chance learn all aspects of business and decide if they would like to go into business themselves. and Schreiber on July 20, 21, and 22: The Schreiber I-Team had a strong showing at the beginning of the double elimination tourna- ment, winning their first three games. Unfortunately, their win- ning streak ended when they were defeated 8-7 in a close game against Wawa. When the I-Team lost to Nipigon 12-7, they were awarded with a third place finish ahead of the team from Thunder Bay. The teams from Wawa and Nipigon went on to battle for first place. Wawa won top spot, and their 8-6 win over Nipigon brought them through the tourna- ment without a single loss. Seventeen teams competed in Tournament The first Annual A&W Mixed Golf Tournament was held on July 15, 1990 with 24 couples participating. The weather was great and even the flies weren't too bad. Billie Bagdon representing A&W, presented trophies to the Low Net win- ners Carl and Linda Sodergren of Nipigon.
