Chairperson Susan Glad reported on the following achievements of the Organization over the past year: -acquired funding for the Introductory Commercial Cooking Class -participated on the Terrace Bay Tourism Development Committee -have committed $7,500 toward the purchase of display racks in the Tourist Information Centre -have committed 25 per cent of the cost (to a maximum of $7,500). of a Tourism Opportunities Study for Rossport and the islands off from Rossport -have been represented on the North Shore of Superior Training Programs Inc., a community industrial training committee whose mandate is to assess the training needs in the area between Manitouwadge and Pays Plat, to access funding and to administer courses to address the needs -surveyed the business com- munity regarding computer train- ing and was instrumental in hav- ing a course in Bedford, a com- puterized accounting software, offered in Terrace Bay -during career week in October, jointly coordinated, along with the Northwest Enterprise Centre, a presentation to senior high school students to promote entrepreneurism as a career option -assisted with the planning of a Northem:=Ontario\coriferente on economic development called "Preparing for the 90's" which was held in Thunder Bay in January -assisted the Aguasabon Chamber of Commerce with supervision of summer students who updated business directories, prepared community fact sheets, and conducted research on local tourism -took a stand on issues relating to the Integrated Services for Northern Children and the VIA Rail cuts; made the appropriate levels of government aware of our opinions -provided numerous individu- als, groups, and government agencies with information about the townships and the local econ- omy The staff are presently work- ing on the following projects: -Community Profiles- infor- mation on Schreiber and- Terrace Bay is being collected and com- piled into two documents -Shadowing Activity- To assist students in career choices, arrangements will be made to have students "shadow" a local worker for a day or half day No new members members volunteered to sit on the Community Futures Committee for the coming year, however, seats are available if any resident of the area indicates an interest in participating.
