The Legion specified that $200.00 go towards the purchase of a bicycle, as a prize in the annual bike rodeo. The remainder of the cheque will go towards two specific pro- grams, namely, the Drug and Alcohol Awareness, and the V.I.P. program. The bike rodeo, which will take place on Friday, June 29th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., will be open to all cyclists in the area. Const. Ralph Polches informed me of the work the Police Force 'has put into teaching bicycle safety. Const. Polches spent a day in St. Martin's School as well as in the Terrace Bay Public School training students in bicycle safety. The rodeo will give them a chance to practice what they have been taught. The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, along with Petro Canada, have assisted all police in Ontario by providing literature and video tapes on bicycle safety. The bike rodeo will be held in the Terrace Bay Arena. It is open to kids aged from Grades 1 to 8 and whoever else in town would like to participate. Participants will be put through a course where they must follow the rules of the road. A bike safety check will be done on every bike that goes through the course. Everyone completing the course will receive a certificate and have an identification sticker put on their bike. A draw will be made for a new bicycle at 2:00 p.m. as well as draws for other prizes. The Police are expecting pos- sibly well over 500 kids. McCausland Hospital Aux. A new member and a visitor were welcomed by President Elaine Mannisto to the regular meeting of the Auxiliary to the McCausland Hospital for May. Prior minutes and the financial statements were read by Treasurer Rosemary Fraser, and approved. Included in the corre- spondence read by Heather DeCal were thank you letters and a request from the Municipality with regard to assisting in the financing of a long list of pro- grams. Members agreed to help in the support of two programs which were health related, donating fifty dollars towards the Drug Awareness program. Gertrude Cotton announced there were 24 Lifeline units in homes with one client on the waiting list. Five more units had been ordered and received. Norma Crockford reported two babies born in McCausland Hospital during the past month, each receiving booties. Vickie Boucher was thanked for creating the beautiful Mothers' Day favors and Elise Kenny made sugges- tions for the Fathers' Day tray favors. Flora Bryson, Marg Gander, and Elaine Mannisto will be scru- tineers at the Annual meeting of the McCausland Hospital Corporation on Wednesday, June the print shop. Lower Level. P.O. Bs i. The afghan winner was Margaret Simmer of Rossport. The selection between two graduating students for the Auxiliary Scholarship Fund was complicated this year by changes in High School Graduating Policy. the President was advised to seek the assistance of Mrs. Principal Ruth Mulligan in the selection. Tentative plans for the final meeting of this season were approved. Elaine will contact absent members before booking dinner reservations. Marg displayed an environ- mentally safe material shopping bag, with a suggestion these be made up before the Fall Fair. Members were enthusiastic and Marg will report on this further in June. Concluding the business of the meeting, a happy duty fell to Marg as she presented a surprised Norma Crockford with her Long Term Service Award Pin. Norma, a member since inception of the Auxiliary, has served as, President, Vice-President, Past, President, Secretary, and several: terms as Treasurer, but also con- tinues to supply the Auxiliary with all the baby booties for each new baby.
