Page 12, News, Wednesday, September 28 , 1988 Police seek assistance to solve thefts During the fall of 1987, two separate businesses in and near the village of Upsala were to vic- tims of break an enters and a great deal of merchandise was stolen. On the weekend beginning Oct. 17, the Happy Traveller Restaurant on Highway 17 within the village of Upsala was entered. Entry was gained by moving a large window which measures 4 feet by 5 feet past the lock. The then entered the business. Once inside, 50 cartons of assort- ed brands of cigarettes were stolen, as well as three pairs of leather gloves, one blue flashlight and six packages of size D Everready batteries. On the last weekend in November, thieves entered the Beaver Post Gift Shop, situated CORRTAVATE | a STOPPERS 623-TIPS 1-800-465-6844 some 20 kilometers east of Upsala. Once inside, a number of pelts were stolen including six sheep pelts, six beaver pelts, six caribou pelts, one wolf hide and one large moose hide. Also stolen was a large quantity of sweat shirts and T-shirts in various sizes and colours. Some of the sweat shirts had pictures of loons on the left top area, while some were marked "Lac Des Mille Lac." Others had pictures of fish or bears. The majority of these are pink in colour, while some were gray, white, navy or light blue. In total, 65 sweat shirts, some of which have hoods, were stolen. To date, no arrests have been made in either occurrence, nor has any property been recovered. Both businesses have made modi- fications to their buildings to guard against future break-ins of this nature. G3 Ministry of - Transportation Ontario Calvin Jalbert, formerly of Schreiber, was found guilty on a charge of driving a motor vehicle while it was not insured. The mandatory fine was $503.75. Jalbert was also found guilty of driving a motor vehicle while sus- pended. The fine was $1,003.75. Two other non-residents were convicted of driving while their licences were suspended. Each was fined $253.75. Ministry of Natural Resources officials laid several charges under the Ontario Fisheries Regulations for snagging fish. Art Stachiw of Terrace Bay plead guilty to snagging pink salmon and was fined $103.75. Richard Roy and Joseph Roy were charged with possession of pink salmon. Each was fined $153.75. Their equipment was seized, and it will not be returned.
