Winnie's Schreiber scribbles and more By Winnie Campbell The Service of the Induction and Covenanting of the Reverend David Sparks into the Terrace Bay/Schreiber charges took place in St. Andrew's United Church. The Presider was the Rev. David Giuliano of Marathon United Church. The Inductor was the Rev. Allan McDowell of Thunder Bay and the Preacher was Mrs. Elaine Frazer of Thunder Bay. Miss Candie Cooper and Miss Mary Sparks gave beautiful ren- ditions of music playing the organ and the flute. The joint choir of Terrace Bay and Schreiber churches sang an Anthem. A presentation of' sym- bols was given; the Bible, by Beth Macadam; the Water, by Peter Vanderkam; and the Bread and Wine by Marlene Doig. Scripture readings were per- formed by Jack Handel and Eleanor Gould. Dorothy Legyel was the organist. The members of Cambrian Presbytery were also present. Following the service, lunch and a social time was enjoyed in the lower hall. United Church Fall Fair Parishioners of St. Andrews United Church of Schreiber held their 18th Annual Fall Fair on Sept 9 and 10 in the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. General convenors of the event were Myrtle Gordon and Jack Handel. Convenors of the various booths were: Margaret Smith, baking table; Bern Jacomb, produce and preserves; Lyla Walker, bazaar table of knit- ting, etc.,; Rona Godin, books; Alice Fairservice, children's cor- ner; Margaret handel, second hand table; Joy Riley, food booth; Skip Davis, penny auction; Chris Morris, Donna Dean Gray, Etta Gray, Tom Whent, Dora Weaver, Beth Macadam - raffles; Ruth Hiller, shmorgasborg supper con- venor; Gwen Hadley, cashier. The committee are grateful to all the workers. Menfolk assisting were Bruce McLeod, Jerry Fischer, Ivan Johnson, Ken Davis, Rev. David Sparks. The Church Board thanks everyone connected in any way with this event; it was a success- ful venture. Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Tom Whent were visitors in town this week and will leave shortly to their winter residence in Florida. The Rev. and Mrs. Prinselaar attended the Church Fall fair and renewed acquaintances. Mr. Prinselaar is the Minister at Grace United Church in Nipigon. Bill and Mary Jo Gellert and baby daughter Kaleigh Elizabeth from Montreal visited Mr. and Mrs. M. Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. H. Gellert and families. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Lugsdin, Tammy, and Randy of Sarnia vis- ited the Campbell's. Our deepest sympathy to the Meyers family on the passing of Father Meyers. He was our priest in Schreiber for seven and a half years. : »o- a diagnosis that saved Marnie's life. On March 25, 1987, nine-year-old Marnie Amos was rushed to a Thunder Bay hospital. She had suddenly collapsed and was unable to move. Within an hour of her arrival, a CAT Scan was performed, and the diagnosis confirmed .. . a diagnosis that saved Marnie's life. This drama has been played out again and again, making the CAT Scanner a valuable regional health care service. A new CAT Scanner has recently been installed at McKellar General Hospital in Thunder Bay. But, the cost is $1.5 million and we need everyone's help to pay for it.
