Talk by Rev. Keith Milne was a highlight of the D.A.G. monthly meeting By Gertrude Cotton Rev. Keith Milne was the guest speaker at the August meet- ing of the Disability Action Group (DAG). He gave an infor- mal yet informative talk on the position he fills as Hospital Pastor at McCausland Hospital. As he has access 'to all depart- ments of the hospital, he can speak with regard to any prob- lems or concerns as the arise, and in essence he has become a advo- cate of patients rights. Fulfilling largely a 'listener' position, he receives the good- natured jibes of the staff related to his occupation, resulting in an excellent rapport. Keith praised the far-sighted vision of this hospital administra- tion who saw a need and advanced the position, which has put this hospital ahead of many city hospitals. He is there to provide spiritual and emotional support as needed and to involve other pastors as well. All clergy are part of the Pastoral Care Committee. Keith has hopes for future development to involve youth of the area to build a comfortable relationship with patients. Appreciation was expressed to Keith by DAG Chairman Shirley Mikus. Regular reports presented by the Secretary, Treasurer and all committees were accepted by the President and membership as the meeting started, and visitor Carolyn Fretz was welcomed. Solicited information on types of Handi-transits has produced some brochures. These were thor- oughly discussed with regard to size, cost, accessibility and main- tenance. The new handrail by the drug- store was noted and praise for the Town Council for these safety measures was voiced. A problem of car bumpers overlapping ramps was again mentioned. Suggestions for the addition of a low bumper rail to keep it clear for wheelchairs were made, in particular, the ramp in front of the arena. Social Convenor Dorothy Kenney announced that the guest speaker at the September meeting will be Leslie Dickson for the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Commun- ity Futures Organization. Plans for the booths to be shared with Simon Hoad of the March of Dimes were finalized. By Winnie Campbell Mr. and Mrs. Pat Gignon have returned from Birtle, Manitoba, where they were visiting their daughter Bonny and family.
