Unfortunately, head lice is one of them. With another school year beginning, the perennial problem of these nasty little pests heads the list of concerns for many par- ents. Despite the negative beliefs associated with head lice and the occasional public hysteria accom- panying outbreaks, Cathy Withers says the little fleas are relatively harmless. Withers is the Public Health Nurse serving Terrace Bay~ schools. She and Brenda Asmus- sen, who provides health care to schools in the Schreiber area, work out of the Schreiber office of the Thunder Bay. District Health Unit. The job of educating the pub- lic about and controlling head lice is among their responsibili- ties. There has been mention lately among some local professional hair stylists and residents of an outbreak, but Withers said that eiber Ayeiqy] 911qnd EL/L/ EE 2) nothing is out of the ordinary. She told the News there have been three or four families from Schreiber who have experienced an outbreak of head lice within the last month, but said the nuin- ber of affected members "'is cer- tainly not unusual. "There is no cause for alarm." She did not say how. many reported cases there have been in Terrace Bay. She noted that the Schreiber spread is under control. and the families have been treated.
