Golfers to study proposed local course improvements By Greg Huneault the News Local golfers might be yelling "fore!" as they dodge falling planks inside the club house if improve- ments aren't made soon. A recently released develop- ment study commissioned by the Aguasabon Golf Club recommends that the club-submit funding appli- cations to replace the existing club house and watering system, both of which are in dire need of repair. These were the two major con- clusions of the study, which began after the club secured funding from the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation to examine possible improvements and methods to finance them. The study will be used as a basis for any further applications. The nine-hole golf course, established in the late 1950's, has a current membership of 193. It is the only course within a radius of approximately 90 kilometers and services players from smaller com- munities around Terrace Bay and Schreiber. The study points out that, although the club house trailers which were donated by Kimberly- Clark have served a useful purpose, "they are not permanent structures and have deteriorated to the point where major renovation works will be required in the near future." Results also state that several leaks in the roof are causing prob- lems, and space is limited for large gatherings of people. The watering system used by the club is creating concern also. Kimberly-Clark provided the club with 150 mm pipe for a new iron waterline last fall, but it is still not in service. The study notes that a pressure-reducing valve may be needed because of the steep grade of the water supply system coming from the Township. The existing waterline has been experiencing low water pressure for years, and only four holes can See "Golf" on page 7 1988-89 Terrace Bay/Schreiber Entertainment Series returns with a sensational showcase Residents of .Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport soon will be enjoying the finest entertain- ment found anywhere in Canada, and it will be right here.
