If you are married, your spouse is covered under your family plan. Once you reach 65, your spouse will be exempted from premium payments. Eligible dependents are included under this free family plan. If your spouse is 65 and you are not, your plan can be switched to your spouse's name to qualify for free coverage. For those who are planning to travel outside Ontario, remember that you should advise OHIP if you plan on leaving the province for more than three months.
