= Merger places pulp and paper company In competitive position At an annual and special meet- ing held on June 2, 1988, the share- holders of Great Lakes Forest Products Limited approved the merger of the company with CIP Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, a whol- ly-owned subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Limited. The merged company will oper- ate under the name Canadian Pacific Forest Products Limited and will be 79.68 per cent owned by Canadian Pacific Limited. Its shares will be listed on the Toronto and Montreal Stock Exchanges. At the organization meeting of the Board of Directors which fol- lowed the shareholders' meeting, Cecil S. Flenniken, chairman, pres- ident and chief executive officer of CIP was appointed chairman, presi- dent and chief executive officer of the new company . Charles J. Carter, chairman and chief executive officer of Great Lakes Forest Products Limited, was appointed vice-chairman. "Our new integrated company, Canadian Pacific Forest Products, is one of the country's largest forest products companies and one,of the world's largest pulp and paper pro- _ducers, well positioned for growth and development," Flenniken said. "We are committed to being a leading producer of quality prod- ucts in each of our businesses, sup- ported by a responsive and dedicat- ed marketing organization. "This committment is based on a belief that our success is linked directly with the success of our cus- tomers," he stated. Motorcyclist injured after striking guard rails A Terrace Bay resident is in a Thunder Bay hospital after the motorcycle he was operating went out of control last Saturday and struck guard rails by the Aquasabon River Bridge. Schreiber OPP say Chris Randa of 509 Lakeview Drive, Terrace Bay, was travelling west on 'Highway 17 on June 4, 1988 at a high rate of speed when the 1986 Yamaha motorcylce he was driving failed to negotiate the turn. The motorcycle struck the guard rails and threw Randa approxi- mately 36 meters in the air. Randa was transported to McCausland Hospital before being transferred to Thunder Bay via Air Ambulance. Randa has been charged with Careless Driving and with driving a motor vehicle with- out a proper licence. There were seven other motor vehicle accidents in the Schreiber area between June 1 and June 7. No injuries were reported in any of . the accidents. One vehicle, however, did incur approximately $600 in damages after it was involved in a Hit and Run. The accident was reported in the parking Lot of the Schreiber Bay Store on June 7, 1988. A tan coloured Cutlass was struck on the side by an unknown vehicle between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm. If you have any information about the unknown vehicle, please contact the police.
