This pro- gram would give advice and sup- port to new and existing business- eS The Investment Fund compo- nent would see up to $250,000 per year allocated to feed local entrepreneurial activity. The self-employment initiative for persons receiving unemploy- ment insurance or social assis- tance would hope to create busi- ness activity in the community. Recipients would receive a $180 per week grant to replace their UI or social assistance. The re-l ion or mobili factor would help persons relo- cate somewhere else to search for jobs in the case of layoffs. The purchase of training to fill training gaps of existing business- es, and the community initiative fund for special projects are two other key programs available to the futures committee if need be. Early June The Schreiber/Terrace Bay Futures Committee has until June 6 to do their study. At that time, the committee intends to have the area's needs known in order to determine if the communities should pursue any options for future develop- ment. In June, the members of the committee will decide what should be done after reviewing Dickson's findings. The members of the commit- tee are Mary Burnett, Donald Beno, George Ramsay, Mike Cosgrove, Clyde Gordon, Deborah Stewart, Don Lavigne, Amie Bouchard, Rose Marie Renaud, Don Robb and John Smrke. It will be up to them to make the final recommendations for any programs, if necessary. Those members, said Fels, rep- resent a cross-section of the con- cerns and interests, economic and employment, in this area. All these people, and others, spent the last year as volunteers preparing data in order to make their submission to the federal government. This submission was okayed by the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission. This lead the way for the six-month initial phase period the committee is now undertaking. "It was a lot of work (to get the submission)," the women told the News. This area, (Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Rossport and Pays Plat), was chosen as an eligible area for Futures consideration by the Minister of Employment and Immigration, Benoit Bouchard. The six-month period has been 100 per cent funded by the feder- al government, at a cost of $50,000. Local municipalities and the paperworkers' union also put up money to assist the committee, the women said. z The Futures office is located behind and below the Bank of Commerce in Terrace Bay. Dickson and _ Executive Assistant Donna Richardson can be found in the office Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. The number at the office is 825-9688. ISchreiber News From full page to classifieds Advertising Pays!
