Smokey the Bear and his assistant Sparkey made a surprise visit to St. Martin School in Terrace Bay late last month and were greeted by Rob Viejou, Ministry of Natural Resources District Fire Technician. A total of 34 participated. After the delicious sup- . per, all went over to the Club to play games. Prizes were also given by Presid- ent Beth McAdam to the following winners: First tourney: Ken Davis and Bart Kusik. Second, Stan Kusik and Mary Inatko. Biggest end, Stan Kusik. Winners in the second tourney were as follows: First, G. Gerow and Leona Fournier. Second, J. Han- del and Mildred Darcy. Biggest end, Albina Wel- bourne. Winningest spare, P. Guina. Winners in the evening were Russ McAdam and Eva Gordon. In Bridge it was Bena Wel- bourne and Pat Guina also, double draw. Special thanks to Jack Handel. Attending the funeral in White River of Mr. Eric Pearson were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Handel, Mr. and Mrs. McBride, and other relations and friends. Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Margaret Nesbitt and family on the passing of Dave Nesbitt. Attending the funeral from Sault-Ste. Marie were Gary and Muriel Shewfelt, Nellie Molinski from Vancouver, and others. (Editor's note: Mr. Nes- bitt passed away at the age of 77 in Thunder Bay on April 29. He was born in Carleton Place, Ontario, and came to Schreiber at the age of 2. He married Margaret Dunkirk in 1935 and last fall they celebrat- ed their 50th wedding ann- iversary. He had been an engineer with CP Rail for 32 years prior to retiring in 1973. The funeral was held in Schreiber on May 3.) Ci Program on The Terrace Bay Kins- men Club, in conjunction with the Terrace Bay Pol- ice Force, will be offering a Child Identification Pro- gram in the townsite next week, according a news re- port released last month. This program will be av- ailable during Police Week, which is May 11 to May 17 this year. There will be a booth at the Ter- race Bay Curling Lounge on May 13 and 15 from | p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at which time a parent may bring their child in. Members of the Kins- men Club and the town Police Force will be on hand to photograph and fingerprint any child who is brought in for the program. There is a fee for this service, which is $2 per child or $5 per family. A 9 by 12 envelope will be provided for the parents. This envelope is kept not by. the Kinsmen or Police, but by the parents them- selves, the release noted, adding that no one but the parents will have a copy of these prints, photographs, or envelope. This Child Identification Program is being offered by the Kinsmen in answer to the concern expressed by numerous parents in Terr- ace Bay and other comm- unities.
