IMINR Representatives meet wit by Bill Love Officials of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources were invited to the February 10 meeting of the Terrace Bay and District Rod and Gun Club to provide information and answer questions on mat- ters close to the hearts of local organized sportsmen. Scott Watson, manager of the MNR's fish hatchery at Dorion, spoke on fish culture and techniques for effective stocking of fish. This information will be put to use by the 32 members of the Rod and Gun Club in managing the club's mini-hatchery in which there are currently 40,000 speckled trout eggs. Club members tend the incubating eggs daily and will release the young trout into local lakes in late March or early April. Mr. Watson stimulated members' thinking towards expansion of the volunteer- operated hatchery, with his discussion of methods for rearing' trout fry to the fingerling or yearling stages prior to releasing them into the wild. Jim Chappel, Outdoor Recreation Supervisor for the MNR's Terrace Bay District encouraged the club to become involved in hunter safety training. He expressed confidence that club members collectively have the expertise required to help them train young hunters in the safe use of firearms. Both Chappel and Jim Atkinson, Regional Fisheries Biologist from Thunder Bay, spoke on the Minister of Natural Resources' proposal to legislate a Resident Angl- ing Licence in Ontario. The proposed licence would come into effect on ~ January 1, 1987 and would cost resident fishermen bet- ween the ages of 18 and 64 a total of 10 dollars.
