The girls recently completed their Basic Bak- ing program and many will now be taking part in the Reach Yourself program which was scheduled to begin February 12. Treasurer to retire after 33 years by Doug Roberts Frank Edward Sechesky of Terrace Bay has served as Treasurer of the Terrace Bay Minor Hockey Association for a total of 33 consecutive years. He recently received the Cana- dian. Amateur Hockey Association Award of Merit in appreciation for his work. He was elected to the position of Treasurer short- ly after his marriage in the fall of 1953. He was born in the city of Fort William on April 7, 1924, and after a few years in that city his father decided to move to Port Arthur where he liv- ed until coming to Terrace Bay in 1946. Letters Dear Editor: I was oiling my guns and listening to Waylon Jenn- ings tapes the other day when suddenly, somewhere between "Mommas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys'" and "She's A Good-Hearted Woman In Love With A Good-Timing Man," I thought of Chery! Hodgins' questions in your Have a heart According to the Cana- dian Heart Foundation, chances are one in 20 that you have high blood pressure, and the odds are even greater if you are over 50, obese, take birth con- trol pills, or if you have a family history of this serious problem. February is Heart Month in Ontario, and the Foun- dation will be trying to educate the public about high blood pressure and other heart difficulties dur- ing this fime. Half the people who have high blood pressure don't know they have it, according to recent CHF information. However, this health problem can be determined by your physi- cian quickly, easily and painlessly. Even if you have it, high blood pressure can be treated. A pill a day may be all it takes. The CHF says **Down with high blood pressure!**. Have your blood pressure checked today. Frank was educated at St. Andrew's Separate School, graduating to the Port Arthur Technical and Commercial High School. Following a period of education and work in various places, he read an advertisement in the newspaper for clerks to work at the then Longlac Pulp and Paper Company, now known as Kimberly- Clark-of Canada Ltd. (Pulp and Forest Products Division). He applied for the job, was accepted, and started work in Terrace Bay on September 3, 1946. He is presently still working for the company in Terrace Bay, as an Inventory Con- trol Clerk. paper last week. Now, we backwoods rednecks often have trouble interpreting hard questions like the ones posed by Cheryl, so I took the liber- ty of condensing all those questions so I could understand. I believe the question is: '*How did you and your wife (or husband) decide who was going to. stay home and look after the kids?"' I can't speak for anyone else, but here's how Shirl and I decided. We agreed that the person best qualified to look after our babies should: (a) be dedicated, and; (b) have breasts. Once we agreed on the qualifications, picking the correct parents became quite easy. And now a word of ad- vice for the turkey who is driving around Terrace Bay in a 4-wheel drive, writing anonymous letters: Frank Sechesky to the Editor keep thinking up new ways to fritter away your tax dollars, buddy, and you'll continue to pay more -- and.more, and more. And a question for the same turkey -- how did you con The News into surreptitiously publishing your letter when their editorial policy states they will not publish anonymous letters? W.B. Love Terrace Bay Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, February 12, 1986, page 3 Schreiber prepares Plan. (This is the second in a series of articles by the consulting firm of Conlin Engineering and Plann- ing Ltd. as submitted to the Terrace' Bay- Schreiber News.) The Township of Schreiber has been prepar- ing an Official Plan since the fall of 1985 and has held one Open House to in- form residents of the pur- pose and content of the Plan and to hear the public's view on the pro- posed Plan. _ Another Open House is scheduled for the near , The nominating commit- tee asked Frank if he would let his name stand for the office of Treasurer of the TBMHA last year and he agreed, though at the end of the 1984-85 season he resigned. He was then ask- ed to reconsider his deci- sion and he then returned to the association as Treasurer for another year. Frank has seen many changes and positive developments in the field of local minor hockey. Several good players have come from the association, such as Donny Fedun, Gary Gresdal, Mike Moher, and Ron Shock, who played for Boston and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Also from Terrace Bay is R.E. Belluz Realty Ltd. Simcoe Plaza, Box 715 Terrace Bay, Ontario POT 2WO Office (807) 825-9393 future. The date of this meeting, however, has not yet been finalized. The Official Plan will guide the future develop- ment and land use of Schreiber Township and will make the Township eligible for provincial funds which will assist in the upgrading of municipal sewer and water services and social and recreational facilities. A three-step process was chosen to prepare the Of- ficial Plan. The Township is presently completing the second step. The==--_ first step documented those aspects of the Township which are relevant to the préparation of an Official Plan: existing land use, past population and employment growth, the extent and condition of municipal services, etc. This step has been com- pleted and the results have been published in a Background Report. The second stage in the preparation of the Official Plan will document a number of issues and con- cerns which Council will need to address prior to the preparation of a draft Of- ficial Plan. Some of the issues which will be dealt with are future employ- growth and the areas to which new growth should be directed. The third and final step involves the preparation of a draft Official Plan, discussion of the draft with Council and the public, and the finalization of the Plan. A draft Official Plan will be prepared in approx- imately one month. Over the next several weeks, the Terrace Bay- Schreiber News will carry a series of articles which will highlight the findings of the Background Report and describe the content of the proposed Schreiber Of- ficial Plan. Charlie Simmer, who once played for the Los Angeles Kings and is now playing for the Boston Bruins. Frank dislikes the lack of support from parents at tithes of elections for new executives of the associa- tion. He gets the impres- sion that people believe the present executive will serve continuously. In order to keep minor hockey alive, support to the leagues and association must be given by parents and fans alike. Frank is determined that this will be his last year as Treasurer and hopes he can retire at the end of this season after many long and faithful years of service.
