Eight year old Jessie Willkes of Terrace Bay was just one of the many volunteers help- ing out at the McCausland Hospital Auxiliary and Gift Shop Christmas Tea and Bake Sale, which was held last month at the hospital. Jessie was on hand to sell raffle tickets for a hand made doll and horse donated to the sale by Judy and Frank Leppanen. The winner of the draw was Mrs. Norma Crockford. Music boxes were on sale at the event, along with Christmas plates, books and many other items. Bits and Bit by Helene Ballard Here we are in a New Year, no doubt for some the old year was not too good while others had a good year. At any rate, we can all hope this year will be better. If we take time to sit down and think about it we can find a lot of. good things that took place in 1985, and I for one am grateful to be living in this part of the world. One big reason is the weather. At least we do not have those terrible storms, cyclones, etc., not to mention earth- quakes. So let's all hope this New Year will be a good one, not only for ourselves but for the whole world. I hope Santa was good to all of you as he was to me. In June of 1985, the Ter- race Bay Tumblers chang- ed their name to the Superior Tumblers to in- corporate the gymnasts from Schreiber and the sur- rounding area. The girls and guys ac- tively participated in many special events in our local communities over the past twelve months. They put on displays for Canada Day, Birchwood Terrace, the Ladies of the Eastern Star, the Schreiber Centen- nial Parade, as well as the opening ceremonies for It was a nice Christmas. On Friday, Dec. 27 we here at Birchwood Terrace had a great time. In fact, it was the best party ever. Our very good friend Mr. Yvon Parise, along with members of his family who were here on a visit from Ottawa and Kaupuskasing really gave their best. We enjoyed some very good tap dancing and Yvon's mother touched the hearts of our French speaking residents when she sang several French Canadian songs. We always look for- ward to these visits from Yvon and so to you and your family, our grateful thanks. We were happy to see the many visitors who came to our home during the holidays and for the gifts placed under our tree. To one and all, thank you. I hate to start the New Year with a "bite," but this is something that just must be taken care of, so I address this to the Reeve and members of the Ter- race Bay town council. I very refer to the nightly noise of the snow machines. This is really getting out of hand, and the fact that they pay a licence on these machines does not give them the right to tear around the way they do, in people's yards and in the back of the home, as well as riding down Lakeview. Many of the citizens have asked the same ques- tion about this ... why? Please do something about this before someone gets killed and let us have a good night's sleep for a change. Thank you. In closing, may I wish all of you a Happy New Year ... Bonne et Heureuse Annee. Notice Fans of Winnie Camp- bell's column, don't worry. '*Winnie's Scrib- bles" will return next week.
