Municipal Electric Association At the recent OMEA District 3 Meeting held in Thunder Bay, Commis- sioners Spike Spikula and Gino Caccamo were voting delegates at this meeting. The OMEA is. comprised of the elected members of Hydro Commissions and the AMEU is comprised of employees of Hydro Com- missions. District 3 represents Commissions in Northwestern Ontario. These two Provincial Associations as well as all District Associations will be amalgamating early in 1986 and in preparation for this, District 3, has elected . its first Executive for the New Association to be known as the Municipal Electric Association. Schreiber Council News The minutes of the Tenth regular Council Meeting for October 8th, 1985. Members of present: Reeve H.H. Fischer, Councillors, E. Borutski, M.L. Cosgrove, W. Hiller (absent at work) and T. Quinton. Delegations: A group of mobile home owners, leas- ing and or renting space in Kragero's Trailer Court, were in attendance. They requested that Council in- dicate to them, if an alter- nate site could be arrang- ed to accomodate them, in the event that Kragero's Trailer Court be closed. Council indicated, that consideration would be given to the establishment of another location, if in fact their present location is closed down.Council indicated, that it would contact R.Kragero and request that the Township be kept informed and advised well in advance, of his plans to close down the park if in fact he intends to do so. Mrs. N. McGuire, was on hand. to request that funds be allocated to the Library Board, for the preservation of some old 'allowed in October is UNICEF month Have your coins ready! Business arising out of the Minutes: It was noted, that some deficiencies had been corrected, concerning the electrical work, but that other items still remain to be corrected, at the Water Treatment Plant: The grant application, for the ball park renova- tions has been made. In- quiries as to the intention of the CP&T- Committee, regarding items of medical equipment on hand, in- dicate the main concern of the donors, is that the items be made available to all who are in need of them, and that adequate records of items taken out be kept, so that the items may be retrieved if need be. It was noted, that the items would be available to the public, only during the working hours of the custodian, and that Council will not be providing a means to distribute the items, after working hours, or during a holiday or weekend. The CP&T Committee to be ad- vised, that the Township will take the responsibility to look after the items in future. : Reports of Committees: Property: It was noted, that final approval of the R-271 subdivision has been received from the Ministry of Housing, and that the plan is now with the surveyors for final registering. Roads: The Ministry of Transportation and Com- munications have not responded to an inquiry as to the status of the Highway 17, at Walker Lake in the M-135 subdivision. Water & Sewer: The sewer sludge truck, recent- ly purchased, for use at the Sewer Treatment Plant, is now on hand, and will be repainted prior to going in- to use. Building Committee: It was noted, that Courses are now available which pro- vide an opportunity for personnel of smaller municipalities to develop more knowledge in the ap- plication in the Building Code and Fire Code. Recreation: It was noted, that the Ice Plant is in operation, and ice should be -available soon. The NWOMRA Conference recently held in Schreiber, was successful and was very interesting. Fire: The new Fire Hall is progressing well, it is _ hoped that the building will be closed in before winter. Police: There has been a number of complaints con- cerning dogs running at large.. Residents are re- quested to keep their dogs tied on their premises. Several letters were received with the resolution as follows: Resolution 85-83, that the Township of Schreiber, pay $94.58 to F.V. Harness, as compensation for the cost of building a curb to counteract flooding from the rear lane, on On- tario St. Resolution 85-84, that C. Pellegrino be offered $1600 as compensation for costs incurred to re-align his driveway on Winnipeg St. Resolution 85-85, That the Township of Schreiber contribute $700.00, to The McCausland Hospital for use in the Doctor recruit- ment program. Letter and Resolution from the Township of Onandaga, Ont. concern- ing the recent resolution of the AMO which approves in principle, the granting of bilingual services in On- tario. It is the opinion of Council, that the AMO resolution represents the majority opinion of the Municipalities of Ontario, and as such the Township is in support of the current policy, until it is changed. Township of Onandaga to be advised to that effect. B.W. Ross _ requested that Council consider pav- ing Garnet Street. Council indicated that it would con- sider the matter when the next paving schedule is drawn up. Accounts For Payment: General Accounts $155,592.30, Water Works Accounts $9,284.94, total $164,877.24. Unfinished Business: Final arrangements for the operation of the North Shore Crisis Centre having been made, Council is prepared to sign an agree- ment with the Township of Manitouwadge, Marathon, Terrace Bay, to provide the operation and maintenance of the Centre. Computers. are Coming St. Martin School is pleased to announce their involvement in the Com- puters and Children Pro- ject. This program was in- itiated by the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture and it's goal is to familiarize elementary school children with the microcomputer and to enhance computer learning. To this end, St. Martin School will be establishing a Computer Centre in its school. 14 Microcomputers complete with monitor, disc drive, printers and educational software. It should be stressed that this is a "community oriented"' project. Input from parents, teachers and children is required to organize the project in a way that meets the needs of all elementary school children.
