Workmens compensation No one. wants to be hurt in an accident at work, and no one wants to develop an industrial disease. But if you ever do have such a misfortune, the Workmen's Compensation Board is ready to help you. Most people in Ontario have Workmens Compen- sation. If you're not sure whether you do, ask your employer. If you are in- jured in a work accident you should get first aid treatment immediately. Your employer is required by law to have a first aid station available and so- meone trained in first aid procedures on duty at all times. Report the details of your accident to your employer. Do this even if no further medical treat- ment is needed; your acci- dent will then be on record in case your injury requires care at a later date. If medical treatment is re- quired ask employer for a Treatment Memorandum and take it with you to a hospital or doctor's office. Should you not be able to get this form, get medical treatment immediately and report to your employer as soon as. possible after- wards. Choose the doctor or other qualified practi- tioner you want to treat you. Once you have made your choice, you must get permission from the WCB before you change to another practitioner. Com- plete and return quickly any forms you receive from the WCB. Your employer must make sure that you receive immediate first aid attention and give to you a Treatment Memorandum if you re- quire medical treatment. They must also record the details of your accident, even if no medical treat- ment seems necessary at the time. If necessary, employers must provide. transportation for you to a doctor's office or hospital of your choice within a reasonable distance of the workplace, or to your home.
