Here are the responses: Council Minutes Terrace Bay Minutes of a regular meeting of Council held in the Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 1985. Those present: Reeve D. Speer, Councillor O. Chapman, Councillor W. Houston, Councillor G. Ramsay, Councillor P. Romanuk, L.H. Simons, M.L. Simmer. 1. Declaration of Interest. There was no declaration of any interest by any member of Council. 2. Deputations a) Mrs. J. Webb and Mrs. D. Patter- son appeared before Coun- cil'to present a petition for the creation of 4-way stop intersections, complete with crosswalks at the cor- ners of Selkirk and Laurier and Selkirk and Hudson in the vicinity of the elemen- tary schools. Council agreed to investigate the matter. b) Mr. C. Desrosiers and Mr.. B. Bagdon appeared before Council to discuss the curling club lease for the upcoming season. It was agreed that there would be no increase in the rent this year, in considera- tion of the Club taking responsibility for putting in the ice surface from the first step. The Club representatives also re- quested that the sand base of the ice surface be relevelled and the refrigeration pipes realign- ed where necessary, and new flashings or other water barrier-be installed-at -- the ends. They also re- quested that space in the snow pit area be made available for storage of their ice resurfacer. These matters will be checked by the Township Engineer. 3. Approval of Minutes. Moved by: Councillor G. Ramsay, Seconded by: Councillor W. Houston. Resolved that the minutes of 'the' regular - Council meeting of June 10th, 1985 be adopted as presented. 4. Correspondence a) Mr. R.F. Stephenson, municipal solicitor, wrote regarding the disposition of costs in the Zroback case. Moved by: Councillor W. Houston, Seconded by: Councillor G. Ramsay. Resolved that Council ad- vise the municipal solicitor that no further action with regard to costs in the Zroback case will be undertaken by the municipality. b) The. Lake Superior Board of Education advis- ed of the decision of the ar- bitrators in the distribution of their 1985 levy. Receiv- ed for information. c) Reeve D. Speer tenders his resignation. Moved by: Councillor G. Ramsay, Seconded by: _ Councillor W. Houston. Resolved that the resigna- tion of Reeve D. Speer be accepted with regret. d) The Town of Geraldton requested support for the candidacy of Mayor Michael Power for ap- pointment to the Board of Directors of A.M.O. . Moved by: Councillor P. Romanuk, Seconded by: Councillor G. Ramsay. Resolved that Council of the Corporation of the , Graduation Bruce John Lang, son of Hazel Lang of Terrace Bay is a recent honour graduate of Safety Engineering Technology at Humber College in Toronto. He is also a graduate of Personnel Management from Con- federation College, Thunder Bay. Convocation was attended by his mother and aunt Margaret Cochrane of Ottawa. Mr. Lang has accepted a position as Safe- ty Co-ordinator with Canada Packers in Kitchener. Denis Gervais: Considering what the weather was like, they did a good job. Township of Terrace Bay endorses the candidacy of Mayor Michael Power of Geraldton for appointment to the Board of Directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. e) The Town of Valley East requested endorsement of a resolution regarding the ap- plication of education taxes. Council declined to pass a resolution in this regard. f) The Deep River Hydro- _ Electric. Commission re- quested Council to express concern to' the federal government regarding pro- posed cuts in research and development funding for the Candu reactor. Moved by: Councillor -P. Romanuk, Seconded by: Councillor O. Chapman. - Resolved: that Council: of the Corporation of the Township of Terrace Bay express its concern to the government of Canada over the proposed reduc- tion in Research and Development funding for the Candu reactor .to Atomic Energy of Canada. g) The Ministry of Transportation and Com- munications requested Council's authorization to do any street line painting required. Moved by: Councillor O. Chapman, Seconded by: Councillor P. Romanuk. Resolved that Council ap- prove painting of centre lines on Simcoe Plaza, Selkirk Ave., and Hudson Ave., by the Ministry. of Transportation and Com- munications, and further request the repainting of school crossing lines over Highway 17 and the mark- ing lines on the airport runway. h) The Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival requested permission to sell lottery tickets in Terrace Bay. Moved by: Councillor P. Romanuk, Seconded by: Councillor G. Ramsay. Resolved that the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival be authorized to sell lottery tickets in. Terrace Bay associated with their annual event. 5. Motions and Notices of Motion: , a) Moved by: Councillor W. Houston, Seconded by: Councillor G. Ramsay. Resolved that Council adopt: By-Law Number 15-85, a by-law to adopt the estimates and strike the rates of taxation for the year 1985. b) Moved by: Councillor O. Chapman, Seconded by: Councillor P. Romanuk. Resolved that Council adopt By-law Number 16-85, a by-law to appoint a Township Engineer, Road Superintendent, and Chief Building Official. c) Moved by: Councillor _ P. Romanuk, Seconded by: Councillor W. Houston. Resolved that Council adopt. By-law Number a by-law to. Public Library 18-85, authorize the municipality to enter into an agreement for the provision of musi- cians' services. e) Moved by: Councillor O. Chapman, Seconded by: Councillor G. Ramsay. Resolved that the Statements of Disbursements dated June 24th, 1985 in the total amount of $33802.68 be approved. 6. Other Business: Moved by: Councillor G. Ramsay, Seconded by: Councillor P. Romanuk. Resolved that. Council authorize purchase of a gift clock to. be carried .to Tungkang, Taiwan and presented to the municipality of Tungkang as a token of friendship from the people of Terrace Bay. Cost not to exceed $100. 7. Adjournment. Moved by: Councillor G. Ramsay, Seconded by: Councillor P. Romanuk. Resolved that the hour of 9:45 p.m. having arrived, this meeting adjourn. Bette Vanee: The men in the search did a fine (job and they all should be commended, what with all the bugs out there and the weather they sure pull together and showed our town has what it takes. Bob Boucher: Yes. I think so because there were lots of volunteers and they searched through the night even with the cold weather. All the people that took part in the search should be commended: They were very lucky to find them alive.
