What training programs will they establish and will they provide incentive for small business that may want to operate in Northern Ontario. What are they going to do to lower the gasoline prices here? The fourth regular meeting of the Council of the Township of Schreiber, held April 12th found Mrs. P. McKeever, representing the "Schreiber Public Library, on hand to present the 1985 Budget for the Library. Council thanked her for the budget presen- tation, and. information related to the budget. They advised that the matter will be dealt with at the time of the General Township Budget. A group of Cub Scouts attended the meeting, in order to acquaint themselves with the opera- tion of Council. They made a presentation to Council in appreciation of the co- operation received from Council in the past. Councillor Borutski, reported on the progress made to date with other municipalities and the Ministry of Community and Social Services relative to the funding of a crisis centre for battered women. There has still been no agreement with Comsoc as to the final budget figure. A preliminary discussion with other municipalities would seem to indicate that there is general agreement on the prorating of costs due from the municipalities, on a per capita basis. R. Larivee - from the Recreation Committee was on hand, and presented details of the proposed ~ renovations to the Ball Park. He relayed the Recreation Committees re- quest for funding of some of the phases of the project. He also. advised, that the Lake Superior Board of Education was approached ~ as to their participation in the project. Preliminary discussions, indicate, that the Board is willing to in- stall the fencing required to define the ball park. An agreement covering the use of the ball park area will be negotiated. He pointed out, that the Recreation Com- mittee, is investigating the possibility of using Township forces to do some on the work, with a view of reducing costs. Wintario has been con- tacted, to determine if fun- ding is available. Council suggested that the people participating in Slow-pitch ball, etc. should be con- tacted to see if they are willing to accept part of the responsibility of the renovations, through in- creased user fees. Councillor Hiller reported, that the ice plant has been shut down for this year. The _ recreation budget is ready, and will be reviewed at the finance budget meeting. A discussion was held concerning the final selec- tion of street names for the new subdivision. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a by-law officially naming the streets at the next meeting. Agreed upon were: Peary Street, Simon Street, Centennial Drive, Stokes Place, Lake Street. The committee recom- mends that 17 lots, be developed in 1985. This is made possible by a slight modification of the sewer line design. The Commit- tee will meet soon, to discuss in detail the disposal, pricing, etc. of lots in the R-271 Subdivision. The Committee recom- mends that a reserve be set up to provide for the even- tual construction of storm sewers on Hill St. anc Ethel St. In this connec tion, M.T.C. are to be ad vised, that the Township o Schreiber, is still interestec in installing the Manitob: Street storm sewer, at ¢ later date. The Committee recom- mends that the replacement of water main on Ethel St.. be made a budget priority item, for this year. This will eliminate a water thawing problem at the end of Ethel St., and provide for a better designed main. The Committee recom- mends that a new metal detector be purchased for use by the township personnel. Chief Doig requested clarification as to the liability incurred by volunteer fire department members, as a result of conducting fire inspections in the Municipality. This is especially pertinent, in view of the current require- ment of the Township to enforce provisions of the Ontario Building Code. The Clerk was asked to look into this. The Centennial Commit- tee will present their finan- cial requirements for the Centennial celebrations as soon as possible. Council accepted the resignation of Miss G. Hadley, from the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Schrieber Public Library Board with regret. Council has been informed that Miss Hadley and Mrs. N. McGuire will receive an Ontario Government award, in recognition of their long years of service to the Board. Miss Hadley, has served 41 years on the Board. It was resolved that the Township of Schreiber pay the travel and lodging ex- penses for G. Hadley, and N. McGuire relative to ac- cepting an award for ser- vices rendered to the Library Board. A letter from Mrs. A. Gowen was read, express- ing some concern as the proposed fireworks display to be held at Walker Lake in connection with the Centennial Celebration. Councillor Quinton is to in- vestigate and take the mat- ter up with Mrs. Gowen directly. I'd like them to ad- dress the road conditions in this area. Michael Moore: I'd like to know: will the can- didates continue to give strong support to health care in this area? I'd like the reaction of the govern- ment to small business; will these candidates con- tinue to provide a more positive climate and en- vironment for the small business man in this area? I disagree with the extended funding of Catholic schools. I feel strong that the candidates should ad- dress this issue. Taxpayers are already overburden- ed with school taxes.
