Sure are a flock of birds flying around. Guess it's almost nest building time. We have -had a few visitors here at Birchwood which always helps pass the time. Just before Easter, we had a nice sur- prise. Those sweet little '*Brownies" came to see us and to give each of us an Easter treat. I thought that was so nice of them and their very able leaders. Police Report _ Officers from Schreiber and Beardmore detachments were suc- cessful in clearing the break and enter which oc- curred at Spadoni's Department Store in Oc- tober 1984. From informa- tion gathered in their in- vestigations, a 20 year old Beardmore resident was ar- rested and will appear in Provincial Court in May. On the 5th of April a domestic argument resulted in a stabbing at Pays Plat. The matter is still under investigation. A Sansui amplifier was reported stolen from the Rossport Hall, a complete description has been ob- tained and suspects have been identified. Several domestic disputes were investigated and assault and threatening charges have been laid. My bite this week is a very timely one. Every spring around this time, there is a rash of grass fires. Most of these are set by children, and as they have no knowledge of con- trolled burning, the results can be very bad. The loss of fences, the damage to trees, and the danger to houses, etc. Please children, if you do not read this, ask Mom or Dad to do it for you and listen carefully: setting fires is not a game, and the suffer- ing to people from burns can be terrible, so children please - no more setting grass fires, leave that job to the fire department who are trained to do this and you kiddies find some other ""game" to play. Machine Maniacs By ERIN MARCELLA This week the "Machine Maniacs"' are at it again, but this time it is even more exciting!!! First, we opened our meeting with Roll Call. Then we pinned our cut-out patterns to our material, then cut out the material. We left it at that and mov- ed on to our machines. We cut out about 4 squares from our leftover material, we had to sew some seams. We had to sew 3 different ones. They were "double stitched seam", "double stitched with zig zag" and the "stretch stitch". This wrapped up another of our exciting meetings. P.S. We had no 4-H last week. The 1985.
