Before we take a break from our special in- terest programs for the summer months may we the Terrace Bay Recreation Committee take this oppor- tunity to thank some per- sons involved programs. The Instructors: Without their assistance and dedication it would be impossible to run any programs. The Schools: Lake Superior High, St. Martin School and_ the Public School. We certain- ly appreciated their dona- tion of space and equip- ment for the programs. Participants: Without you the public enrolling in our programs it is impossible for them to take place. Thank you one and all. We look forward to of- fering more programs in the fall. With assistance from all the community this endeavour will be suc- cessful. Give us a call at 3542 with ideas. We could use a few more names for the follow- ing programs: Chain Saw Filing: April 13th - 6 hour course Youth Racquetball Instruction: April 11th - May 2nd - 8 hour course We are presently work- ing on our summer pro- grams. Recreation News: Regional Qualifying Gymnastic Meet: The Terrace Bay Tumblers are hosting the Regional Qualifying Gym- nastics Meet. This meet, open to boys and girls will take place in the Lake Superior High School, Ter- race Bay on Saturday March 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday March 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a very nominal fee charged for ad- mission to this event. May we encourage you to come out and support the Terrace Bay Tumblers. The Ball - Hockey Tournament was a big success. The North Stars defeated the Exter- minators in the-final on Sunday morning. The Defenders came up short in search of their third con- secutive championship. Congratulations go out to Joey Speziale (Western), Joey Speziale (Shell), Joey Figliomeni, Lawrence McParland, Frank Trichilo and Frank Figliomeni on their victory. The children's games room tournaments' went very well. The winners of the pool tournament were: Ist Darren Riley 2nd Dom Filane 3rd Mike Speziale Winners of the Chex Table Hockey tournament were: 7 to 11 years Ist Bill Roen 2nd Scott Fummerton 3rd Frank Costa 12 and over: Ist David Figliomeni 2nd Joey Figliomeni 3rd Brian Beauparlant Congratulations to all! On Saturday afternoon the Chimo Club sponsored a Cribbage tournament. Although a poor. turnout showed up for the card game, those participating had a great time. Winners of the event were: Ist Rose. Marie Renaud 2nd Stan Ginn 3rd Colleen Gauthier Consolation winners: Connie May, Dean Filane, Irene Borutski, Martin Ryan and April Renaud. Dave and Hilda Mushqush. Jerry Bouchard has returned from Edmonton, Sask. where he attended a Native Workshop. Anne Todesco has returned from Thunder Bay where she attended a meeting with represen- tatives of the University of Waterloo regarding cor- respondence courses. 122 students of this area are engaged in these courses. Lorraine Seppala left for the Lakehead as her mother Mrs. Esther Seppala is seriously ill. Rossportites all hope that she will soon recover. Mrs. Prina Gerow is a business visitor to Thunder Bay. Chuck Hutterli is home from Marathon. The members of the St. John Berchmen Altar Society met at Mrs. Mary Schelling's home Thursday Terrace Bay umblers The Terrace Bay Tumblers, a group of very energetic young people coached by Betty Tate, in- vited Mr. Nigel Rothwell of Toronto to hold a gym- nastic clinic here. The clinic took place at the Ter- race Bay High School on Friday March 8th and Saturday March 9th. Mr. Rothwell is a very ex- perienced gymnast, having 'been with' the Canadian National Team for 6 years, and twice a member of the Canadian Olympic Team. He has also participated in the Pan Am Games and in the World. Gymnastic Championship. Currently Mr. Rothwell is teaching phys. ed at the University of Toronto, and is the coach of the varsity gym- nastic team there, as well as coaching younger children. Also in atten- dance was Joe Donton from the Lakehead Gym Club, and coach Gilbert Page, from Geraldton with some of his boys: The Terrace Bay Tumblers are gearing up for the Northwestern On- tario Regional Qualifying Meet, to be held in Terrace Bay the 23rd and 24th of March. This is the qualify- ing meet for the Provincial Championships, to be held in Toronto May 13th and evening for their regular monthly meeting. Nine members recited the open- ing prayers led by the President Beverly Legault. The meditation for the day was "This day you will be with me in paradise. This is God's answer to the sup- plicating cry of the repen- tant thief. The prayer "*Heavenly Father, I come before you like the prodigal son. Be merciful and le- nient to me, especially in the hour of my death."' ' Laura Legault read the minutes and cor- respondence. Several cards of thanks were received. The company making the society's pins was receiv- ed advising that the pins would be completed in the near future. The president and Gail Bain gave a report on the church's oil tank condition. It was found that it was still in excellent con- dition. Mrs. Bain reported that she was pleased with the results of the public bingos. Mrs. Legault gave Ontario NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING TAKE NOTICE THAT a Public Meeting of the Liquor Lic- a satisfactory report on the home bingos. On new business a public dance will be held on April 27th in the com- munity hall. Arrangements are to be made for the music for the dance. The cassette machine was on display. It is being offered as a Derby Day Draw. The April meeting will take . place at the home of Anne Todesco. Following ad- journment, Rev. Father Groulx said the closing prayers and blessing. Lun- cheon was served by Mrs. Schelling and an enjoyable social hour was had. 14th. This qualifying meet will be one of the largest, with more than 11 clubs taking part. Terrace Bay Tumblers expect close to 120 gymnasts, ' from Kenora, Fort Frances, Red Lake, Dryden, Red Rock, Geraldton and 3 groups coming from Thunder Bay. The Terrace Bay Tumblers consist of Debbie McDougall, and Wade Papineau, both regional stream, Sandra McDougall and Andrew Bonnema, both provincial stream, as well as Amy Helmick, Mellissa Helmick, Sarah Ditchfield, Kelly Wilson, Brenda Muffitt, Stacy Wallwin, Tamara Bilec, Jane Pelligrino, and Rhon- da Laravee. Not only is there a lot of work 'going on in the gym of the high school, but also down the hall, where the Terrace Bay Kinsmen are helping to build the spring floor needed for this com- petition. They have com- pleted the second work ses- sion of 4, and Mac Roger- son, President, says they are more than happy to help out. He says the Kinsmen motto is "Serving the Community's Greatest Needs", and in this case it's the Terrace Bay Tumblers greatest needs. Bill McDougall says, ""The special spring floors would not be ready for the meet if not for the Kinsmen. They are also saving us thousands of dollars.'" Mac Rogerson also says that '"'The Kinsmen are available to help any group or organization they can."'
