Doctors in private practice still receive fees for the services they provide their pat- ients. They still mail their bills, but mail- men don't deliver many of them to private =. homes in Ontario these days. Thanks to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).. It's a fund, administered by the provincial govern- ment for all residents of Ontario. Our pre- miums pay part of the cost of the services, the rest of the money comes from provincial and federal taxes. When we're sick and need health services, our bills are paid by OHIP. If we're fortun- ate enough not to be sick at the moment, the money we've put into OHIP, helps provide health services for someone who needs them. At present, most Ontario doctors send their bills directly to their local OHIP office, in- stead of separately to their patients. If your doctor bills OHIP directly, it is essential that he has current and accurate in- formation to complete the claim card, which he sends to OHIP for billing. The information required is: OHIP number, name of subscriber, name and address of patient, birth date and relationship to the subscriber.
