BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS The Lake Superior Board of Education held Meeting No. 10/77 on 1977 11 19 at the Mara- thon High School Library. Mr. M. Heney from Thunder Bay, the Regional Director, St. John Ambulance, NW Ontario, pre- sented a film and a brief description of the Council's new First Aid training program. The Committee of the Whole Board Reported: The Board nominated Mr. and Mrs. Edward Taylor to apply for service with the Department of National Defence Overseas, for the school years 1978-79 and 1979-80. Approval was grant- ed for Rose Essar, teacher at Marathon Public School. to make application for participation in the Intermational Teacher Exchange Program (Australia) for the full school year of the host country. " The establishment of a new committee, the Administrative Council-Board Liaison Committ- ee, was approved effective 1978 01 Ol. This committee will replace the present Education Committee and the Administrative Council. The Board approved the acquisition of the services of Stevenson & Kellogg Ltd., Manage- ment Consultants, for the purpose of hiring a Director of Education. The Minutes of various meetings and the list of disbursements in the total amount of $363,519.12 for the month of October, 1977 were approved. The Board was informed that approval to hire a Junior Kindergarten teacher for the. Lake Superior Public School was no longer nec- essary. Pupil numbers have declined to a lev- el no longer requiring an additional teacher. The proposed policy to prohibit smoking at Board and Board Committee meetings effective 1978 01 01 was not accepted. Continued page 8 ....
