September is Arthritis Month = but for .over 200 Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport residents, Arthritis is every month. That is 200 known Arthritics = how many more, as yet, we do not know! Arthritis, like a Hunter, softly" as the south wind, stalks, then strikes. It has no preference whom it strikes - not just the elderly, or middle aged, but young adults and children. Yes, children; per- haps the most pathetic of all. Can" you imagine having to lie in bed = always! Never to be able to skip rope or climb a tree! The immediate goal of the Arth- ritis society is Control. Research can only be continued with the help of everyone. The newly formed Arthritis Society, of this area, is having a door-to-door campaign for funds beginning Seotember 6th until the 28th. Funds received are for patient care, medical research and education. This year, His Royal Highness, Duke of Edinburgh K.G., K.T., is Patron for the world Rheu- matism Society. He issued this statement: "The purpose of the Year", said His Royal Highness, "is to draw attention to the neglect of the rheumatic diseases and to show the toll they take of individuals and the community as a whole. It is then, the intention to seek ways of ending this neglect, through more arthritis research, better advice on prevention, more effective. treatment and improved welfare facilities. World Rheumatism Year will give much more needed encouragement to all those involved in re- search and treatment to make a special effort on behalf of the millions who suffer from arth- ritis and rheumatism throughout the world".
