TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 31, 1977 TERRACE BAY = POLICE DEPARTMENT POLICE REPORT AUGUST 22 TO 28: During the week of August 22 to 28, the Terrace Bay Police were called upon to inves- tigate twenty-two occurrences. On August 22nd, Police investigated five cases of false pretences involving the writing of NSF cheques in the amount of $80.00. This case has been cleared by arrest and disposed of in juvenile court. The Kimberly-Clark tug boat at Hayes Lake had it's windows shot out and this matter is still under police investigation. Numerous bear complaints have been received by the department and in most cases this mat- ter has been referred to the Ministry of Nat- ural Resources. Bear traps have been set up in various locations in the Townsite. The roving bruins are then live trapped and re- located to another area. A minor vehicle bicycle accident was in- ~ vestigated at the intersection of Hudson and Laurier with no injuries and resulting in min- or damage to the car. No charges have been laid in this case. On August 28th, a window was smashed at the Recreation Centre and a local male resident has been arrested and charged with this off- ence. - Police were busy on Saturday night, stop- ping all vehicles on Highway I7 and notifying the drivers about a road washout in the vicin- ity of Marathon. Apparently the heavy rains of August 28th, washed out a section of the Trans Canada Highway. E : : During the week, four charges have been laid under the Highway Traffic Act. COURT NEWS: August 25, 1977: Reinhold Begall of 32 Jewel Street, Thunder Bay appeared in Criminal Court' in Terrace Bay and entered a plea of guilty to the following charges: 1. escape lawful custody - fined $150.00 or 15 days in jail. 2. Common assault - fined $150.00 or 15 days in jail. 3. Mis- chief over $50.00 - received a conditional dis charge, restitution in the amount of $79.34. This charge was laid as a result of Bégall kicking out the police cruiser window after having been arrested.
