OPEN LETTER TO THE EDITOR I have just returned from a walk in one of our green belts. Usually, this is a time to relax and escape from the confusion of the day. Instead, today, I came home shattered and shocked by the scene of devastation which I very unexpectedly came upon in a stretch of Municipal property south of the Lakeview Extension. Some person Or persons, obviously devoid of respect for and sensitiv- ity to Nature and his fellow-creatures, per- formed against Mother Nature one of' the most horrific acts which I have yet witnessed. A wide swath of beautiful and stately old birches, the spring and summer homes of color ful warblers, the homes of squirrel and par- tridge and other small creatures of Nature were 'indiscrimately felled and strewn across the path which many are wont to walk. How can anyone in his right mind commit such an offence against Nature and Man? Could he not have heard the repeated pleas to conserve? Has he been blind to man's past errors and destruction around us?" Is it possible for one in this enlightened age not to know the value of trees in Nature's plan? Is it possible he is not aware of the tree's role in conservation of moisture and in prevention of soil erosion?
