Father J. Meyer the celebrant. Mr. end Mrs. Schelling were married in Welland, Ontario on January 5th, 1927 by Rev. Father A. MoAffery. The wedding dimmer and reception took place in Rossport. The dinner wes held in their home on Main Street with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Legault and Mr. and Mrs. W. Schroeder acting as host and hostesses. The table was covered by a oream linen cloth centered with a orystal vase of blue and white carnations. Eighty-five percent of the dinner guests were relatives who came as far ag Kamloops, B.C. in the west and Sault Ste. Marie in the east. Grace was said by Father Meyer, who later paid tribute to the couple. William Schelling was born and raised in Rossport and educated here in the village school. He learned the fishing trade early in his youth from his grandfather, the-late/ pioneer George Gerow. Outside of a few years spent on Great Lakes freighters, he was more or less self supported in the commeroial Fishing Industry, Mrs. Schelling was the former Mary Reuter of Welland. For the anniversary celebrations Mrs, Schelling chose a floor. length gown of turquoise blue silk crepe with a full skirt from the waist; round collered bodice embroidered in crystal beads, sheer pleated sleeves with tight cuffs of crepe. She wore a corsage of red rose buds and white carna- tions and her only jewelery was a necklace of cultured pearls which was a gift from her husband fifty years ago at the wedding. The evening festivities "took place in the Rossport Com- and streamers and from the center of the hall was a beautiful carved circle in gold depicting their 50th anniversary. This was the work of their friend, Henry Schroeder. Hostesses for the reception were Mrs. Florence Fischer, Mrs. Prina Gerow, Mrs. Patsey Campbell and Mrs. Ida Krause. The luncheon table was covered in an ecru lace cloth, cen- tered with gold roses in a gold vase and off set with gold candles in golden holders. The wedding ceke was set on a side table and was made and decorated by Mrs, Ida Krause, a friend of the family. Replenishing in the kitchen were Mrs. D. Henderson, Mrs. Kethleen Bouchard, Mrs. Agnes Legault and Mrs. Camilla Legault. Serving were Jacki Goodchild, Cathy Gerow, Anita Bouchard, Ella Schroeder, Della Mushquash and Arlene and "Vicki Krause. Circulating the guest book was Terry-Anne Bouchard. Messers Peter Gerow and Walter Gerow were in sharge of the refreshments. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr. Sehelling's cousins, Lionel Hubelit, Leona Leisander and Maxine Wahl on Hammond electric organ, drums and guitar. Master of ceremonies for the evening was Bob Krause who presented them with airplane tickets to Florida from friends and relatives. They were attached to a long fish net and ribbon and were drawn from a large golden box which was carried on the stage in a fish box by Danny Campbell and Bobbie Krause. Other gifts included a spin dry washer, a get of luggage and a bowl of gold fish brought all the way from Calgary by a cousin, Russell Cliff. Jack Stokes MPP from the Premier of Ontsrio, Hon. William Davis. Rev. Father Meyer presented them with a small plaque commemorating their anniversary of 50 years and retirement from fishing. They were the recipients of numerous telegrams from various locations in Canada and the States as well as cards and several gifts of china, glassware, silver and linens. Clemens V.G. presiding. Mrs. Helen Wallace P.D.D.P. introduced Mrs. Dorothy Buttars D.D.P. from Sapphire Lodge, Thunder Bay. Mrs.. Ivy Whitfield of Sapphire Lodge was also welcomed as a visitor. Mrs. Winnie Clemens gave a lengthy list of those members who were sick or bereaved. Mrs. Mavis Slater reported for the C.P.T. Committee who had met on Sunday, January 8th ! in the United Church Hall. Annual dues were + forwarded to the C.P.T. Central Committee and a donation was given to the Leukemia Founda- tion. The Committee will sponsor a Penny Auction and Hamper Draw in March.
