PAGE I4 TERRACE BAY NEWS = AUGUST 27, I975 SCHREIBER RECREATION NEWS QUETICO TRIP - MONDAY, AUGUST II: We made preparations for our long trip, did some shopping and waited for Randy to come back from Thunder Bay with our van. We used the Thunder Bay Parks and Recreation can -oe trailer. Tuesday, August 12: Got the trailer loaded and left Schreiber about 10:30. We arrived at Arrow Lake Provincial Park about 2:30. We started down the lake right away and padd- led about 2 miles up the lake. We had really bad head winds and the waves were really enor--- mous. It rained the first night and some of the kids got wet. Wednesday, August 13: Got up about 9:00, ate and started on the lake again. It was just as bad as the day before. It took us until 5:00 to finish the other 7 miles of lake. then paddled over Rose Lake and channel and we camped on Rat Lake Portage at 8:30 Thursday, August 14: We started off about 9:30 and did a portage into South Lake and paddled it, then did the Height of Land Por- tage into North Lake and paddled it. We got another late start that morning but put a lot of miles between us and that campsite. We paddled up the river and came Once we got to the Lake we were out and on our way home. We got a little side tracked on a few swamps, so we set up camp for the night. Sunday, August 17: We finally figured out whe- re' we were and soon got back to where we were suppose to be. We started back up the Granite River and camped at the end of Gunflint Lake. Monday, August 18: We broke camp about 9:30 and paddled to the end of Arrow Lake. Tuesday, August 19: It was a lazy day on Tues- day. The kids walked to the store to buy some food. We swam and had baths and just layed in the sun. Wednesday, August 20: The Van came at 11:00 and we were gone by 12:30 and home by about 5:30, Thursday, August 31: We had a windup party for the kids and gave out novelty badges for each of them.
