OLD CHEQUE Inez McCuaig was delighted to have the family of the late Bill Alcorn, going through old papers of their father, restore to her a cheque she'd issued, in 1967, for $2.25 for an over-charge to their father. Mr. Alcorn had asked that this uncashed cheque be returned to Mrs. McCuaig who be- lieves it a typical gesture of Bill's and other customers, then, with whom she did bus- iness for the paper. Often, having close to one hundred dollars taken out of her own account, to cover such orders as - Inez, from phone call, or, casual meeting on the street - Renew my paper will you? I'll be over to pay you. Or - Inez - put in a thank you card will you? You know what to say. In fact, for many years, she made more for the paper in Ads, thank you's and renew- als than the Paper paid her for news. And, this cheque, is a typical example of mutual trust - it was for a picture of 'Old Bill Alcorn' and a might 'fish he'd caught in Walker Lake, of which she got an excellent picture. And when she "took' it, Bill said, "Here's $5.00 Inez - get me ten copies, for the kids - if they put it in the paper". Which they did. And, so, she was returning the balance to him.
