Stev- en Balke and Alan Dooley from Detroit, Michig- an attracted my attention as I passed by. They had Ski-doo boots hanging from the harness of their well equipped pack sacks, a tent and sleeping bags, just didn't seem to go with winter boots, so my natural curiosity got the better of me and I asked them about their travels so far. They had been on the road for three days, and until they reached the outskirts of Mara- thon on Highway I7 they had had good luck with their hitch hiking. Steven thought this area was very beautiful but admitted it was freezing cold in the morn- ings, and after spending seven hours standing on the Highway, thats when the winter boots came in mighty handy. Their destinations is Banff National Park and the Rock- ies. Left is Steven Balke and right~ Alan Dooley on Highway I7, Terrace Bay. Photo by Pam Jones
