NFB FILM ON OCTOBER CRISIS TO BE TELECAST ON CBC-TV APRIL 28 Action: The October Crisis of 1970, a 90-minute documentary on the period when FLQ kidnappings sent army tanks rumbling into Quebec and caused the evoking of the War Measures Act, will be telecast on the CBC-TV network Monday, April 28 at 9:30 p.m., EST. In making the announcement, Knowlton Nash, Director of Television Infor- mation Programs for the CBC's English Services Division, said, "The crisis was one of the most crucial events in Canadian history and must have ex- haustive and sensitive examination so Canadians can understand what happened and why. "This film is a graphic reportage of the events of that crisis and I am pleased that we have been able to juggle previous commitments in our tele- vision schedule so that we could televise the program in the current season" said Mr. Nash. The National Film Board production, directed by Robin Spry, divides into two parts - tracing the development of separatism in Quebec through the forties and fifties up until the dramatic event of the fall of I970; and the crisis itself. The bulk of the film deals with the kidnapping of Pierre Laporte and James Cross, the murder of Laporte, and with the political and civil rights questions which resulted from the kidnapping and the murder.
