Mr. Smith came directly from England to Schreiber in I909 from his birthplace, Swans- combe, Kent, England and in I9I5 was married to Miss Hawker. He served with the 52 Battal- ion in World War I. In I930 he moved his fam- ily to Dorion, returning to Schreiber in I94I, and retired from the C.P.R. as an engineer in 1955, Mr. Smith's chief characteristic was his gentleness and his absolute devotion, his home and family, and love and communication with other small children. There was always a playhouse in the Smith yard, where hordes of small neighbours met, enjoying endless tea par -ties, and vigorous house-cleanings and re- decorations, in which Albert always took part.
